You’re a U.S. soldier in enemy territory in Afghanistan, and you’ve been dodging sniper shots for the last four weeks. You’ve finally got eyes on the guys that have been making your life hell, and your team calls in an airstrike. You wait for the bomb to hit, thinking you know exactly what is going to happen next. But then you hear the bomb falling, and you know that something has gone horribly wrong.
This was the scene that faced a group of American troops stationed at Forward Operating Base Tillman in Patika Province, Afghanistan in 2014. The War in Afghanistan had been raging for a little over 12 years at this point.
The troops in question had indeed been beleaguered by sniper fire, and they had been searching without luck for the guy responsible for it formore than a month. Then, at last, the enemy force was spotted in the distance.
