In 2005 an Indian teenager called Laxmi was so terribly disfigured by a shocking assault that the nurses who treated her wounds would not let her view her own face in a mirror. But Laxmi was determined not to be defeated by her attacker or anyone else who worked to put her down. Indeed, she has spent her days since the assault bravely fighting back and inspiring people with her courage.
At the time of her appalling attack, Laxmi was 16 years old and just like any other teenager. Certainly, she was full of life, fun and excitement, and she had her whole life ahead of her.
But everything changed for Laxmi on April 22, 2005. It was on this day that all of her teenage hopes and dreams were seemingly taken away in an extreme act of cruelty.
