Budini had also had his own brush with Thailand’s wildlife when he walked among these elephants the day before. But after approximately two weeks of joyous vacationing, something entirely unexpected happened.
On October 15, 2015, Marchment and Budini discovered a local woman named Duen, who had a daily post-work ritual of feeding homeless dogs. “Needless to say, we have a new agenda for tomorrow,” Marchment wrote on Facebook. “Load up with dog food and help [Duen] feed all the homeless animals.”
The next day, Marchment and Budini found an injured black puppy. Duen explained that the dog had been involved in a recent road accident and hadn’t seen a veterinarian since. Touched, the newlyweds determined that they would get the puppy the help that he needed.
