When Katherine Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt first began dating in 2018, it was the start of a whirlwind romance. The pair tied the knot barely a year into their relationship, in fact – and only months after Pratt had finalized his divorce from first wife Anna Faris. Then just ten months into married life, the Guardians of the Galaxy star and his new bride had yet another huge announcement to make – one that surprised fans of the loved-up couple, too.
Yes, it’s fair to say that things moved fast between Pratt and Schwarzenegger. Mere months after their courtship began in the summer of 2018, the two announced their engagement. Then in early June 2019 the actor and his fiancée celebrated their wedding – a fairytale affair that took place in Montecito, California.
And less than a year later, Pratt and Schwarzenegger stunned fans yet again with another life-changing admission. Still, perhaps the news shouldn’t have come as too much of a surprise, as swift moves have practically become the norm for the newlyweds.
By contrast, it took some time for Pratt to rise from humble beginnings to Hollywood super-stardom. After the future actor dropped out of college, he moved to Hawaii at 19. There, he lived in a van while he waited tables at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company in Maui. Yet, amazingly, this job actually led Pratt to his big break.
You see, the aspiring star just so happened to wait on Rae Dawn Chong – an actress and director who had appeared in the acclaimed film adaptation of The Color Purple. And in 2014 Pratt told Entertainment Weekly that he had not only recognized Chong, but that he had also explained to her that he had always wanted to make movies. He recalled, “[Chong] said, ‘You’re cute. Do you act?’ I was like, ‘I act! Put me in a movie!’”
So, Chong did just that, as fortuitously she had been casting for comedic horror flick Cursed Part 3 when she had crossed paths with Pratt. In turn, Pratt decided to leave Hawaii behind and move to Los Angeles. And while the actress ultimately never released the movie as she didn’t think it was any good, that leap of faith from Chong gave the future Parks and Recreation star the impetus to really pursue a Hollywood career.
A move to LA didn’t guarantee instant success for Pratt, though. Indeed, he spent several years waiting tables in Hollywood – even though, as the actor admitted on a 2016 episode of The Graham Norton Show, he wasn’t very good at it. During that TV appearance, Pratt also admitted to the host, “I’d been busted so many times eating off people’s plates.”
But all of Pratt’s hard work and money-saving tactics paid off in 2002, when he earned a place in the main cast of TV series Everwood. He also went on to land parts in The O.C. and 2011 movie Moneyball, which would receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
At the time of Moneyball’s Oscars nod, Pratt was already becoming a household name while playing the goofy Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation. And the actor didn’t have to worry about making the transition from the small screen to the movies, either. Before Parks and Recreation ended in 2015, he had already landed a leading role in the major blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.
Since then, Pratt has gone on to star in a slew of other hugely successful movies. In 2018, for instance, he reprised his Jurassic World part in the film’s sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The actor reportedly received a $10 million paycheck for the follow-up after the first flick raked in $1.7 billion globally.
But in spite of his on-screen success and upward Hollywood trajectory, Pratt’s personal life has had its ups and downs. In 2007 the star met Anna Faris for the first time on the set of the movie Take Me Home Tonight. And although the pair instantly bonded, there was just one small hitch: at the time, Faris was already married to fellow actor Ben Indra.
Pratt’s luck would change at the end of the same year, however, when Faris and Indra decided to go their separate ways. Then, after Faris’ divorce became final in 2008, she and the Jurassic World star got engaged. And in July 2009 the couple tied the knot with a picture-perfect wedding ceremony in Bali.
Then, in spring 2012, Pratt and Faris had more exciting news to share: they were going to be parents. They subsequently welcomed their son, Jack, in August of that year. But the pair and their new arrival didn’t get much family time together in 2013. With both Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy on Pratt’s plate at the time, he was only able to see his son twice in six months.
Then, in 2015, came the tabloid rumors about Pratt being unfaithful to Faris. These were denied by the couple, and they remained an item, speaking highly of their bond and their romance. In 2017 the stars also posted tributes to each other on Instagram when Mother’s Day and Father’s Day rolled around.
But kind words and warm feelings wouldn’t be enough to save Pratt and Faris’ union, as in August 2017 the pair told the world that they were separating. And soon enough, both moved on to new partners. In November 2017 the Mom actress began to date cinematographer Michael Barrett, while Pratt started to see Schwarzenegger not long after that.
According to People, Maria Shriver set up Pratt with her daughter in spring 2018 – less than a year after the actor’s separation. Shriver, of course, is a member of the Kennedy family, a broadcast journalist and the ex-wife of Terminator actor and Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger. She also has four children, with Katherine being the first-born.
But while the eldest Schwarzenegger child may have two famous parents, she’s remained relatively out of the spotlight. And she made sure that she had an education behind her, too, graduating from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in 2012. She had already begun to write professionally, though, before she turned her tassel.
Schwarzenegger’s first book, Rock What You’ve Got: Secrets to Loving Your Inner and Outer Beauty from Someone Who’s Been There and Back, came out in 2010. In the work, she shares her personal journey to body-image acceptance and encourages other young women to find the same positive state of mind.
And since then, Schwarzenegger has published three more books. In 2014 she came out with I Just Graduated… Now What?, which is packed with the wisdom and advice she received when she graduated from USC. Three years later, a children’s book called Maverick and Me – which told the tale of how Schwarzenegger had adopted her puppy – similarly hit shelves.
Schwarzenegger has also compiled stories for her 2020 book, The Gift of Forgiveness: Inspiring Stories from Those Who Have Overcome the Unforgivable. The anthology included pieces by kidnapping victim Elizabeth Smart and Tanya Brown, whose sister, Nicole Brown-Simpson, was the victim at the center of the infamous O.J. Simpson murder trial.
Then, in the midst of Schwarzenegger’s burgeoning writing career, Shriver decided to fix up her daughter with a Hollywood superstar. And in June 2018, the public caught their first glimpse of the author and Pratt on a date. A month later, the fledgling couple were also seen grabbing ice cream with the actor’s son, Jack, who at the time was five years old.
Ultimately, Pratt went on to meet Schwarzenegger’s family. And in September 2018, a source told People that the relationship wasn’t just a fling. The insider revealed, “It’s only been a couple of months, but they’re both serious about the relationship and hopeful for the future. Chris doesn’t just date to date, and neither does Katherine. She’s very excited.”
Yet while friends of the couple reportedly expected an engagement in the near future, Pratt and Schwarzenegger hadn’t even made a public declaration of their relationship status at that point. This announcement duly came in December, when Pratt took to Instagram to celebrate Schwarzenegger’s birthday. He wrote on the social media site, “Your smile lights up the room. I’ve cherished our time together. Thrilled God put you in my life. Thankful for the laughs, kisses, talks, hikes, love and care.”
Finally, there was the news that Pratt and Schwarzenegger’s nearest and dearest had anticipated. On January 14, 2019, the actor announced via Instagram that he and his new girlfriend had gotten engaged over the weekend. And Pratt shared a sweet photo of the pair along with the message, “Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I’m thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go!”
That same month, Pratt envisioned a slower-paced future with his wife-to-be. He told Entertainment Tonight, “I always want to be that guy that works to live, not lives to work. I think [I want to spend] just a lot of time at the farm and a lot of time catching a lot of fish and seeing lots of sunsets.”
But that easy-going speed wasn’t the way that Pratt and Schwarzenegger operated. Instead, they got married right away – a mere six months after their engagement. And it seemed that the pair were more than ready to be officially united. A source told People after the June nuptials, “You can tell today is the happiest day for Katherine. She hasn’t stopped smiling. And Chris seems giddy with excitement.”
On June 9, 2019, Schwarzenegger also took to Instagram to share her post-wedding glee. She wrote, “Yesterday was the best day of our lives! We became husband and wife in front of God, our families and those we love. It was intimate, moving and emotional. We feel so blessed to begin this new chapter of our lives.”
And in true Pratt and Schwarzenegger fashion, that next chapter started quickly after the wedding. Ten months on from the June 2019 marriage, sources revealed to People and other media outlets that the duo were expecting their first child together. Those close to the newlyweds wouldn’t have been completely surprised by this news, either.
Just days after the wedding, an insider told People that having a baby would be one of Pratt and Schwarzenegger’s first orders of business. They said, “[Pratt] was very clear with his intentions from the start, and [Schwarzenegger] has never felt so loved and safe. They both feel so blessed to have found each other, and they can’t wait to expand their family as soon as possible.”
It appeared, too, that Pratt and Schwarzenegger’s readiness to start a family stemmed from a courtship spent with Jack. The source went on to explain, “Instead of [the couple] mostly enjoying solo, romantic dates, Chris’ son from early on was a very big part of their dating life.” And, apparently, this more than suited the author and mom-to-be.
In fact, the individual speaking to People claimed that Schwarzenegger had reveled in this time. They added, “Katherine is like a big kid and loves doing activities with Jack. She loves that Chris is a dad. Seeing Chris with Jack made Katherine positive from early on that Chris is ‘the one.’”
And Schwarzenegger’s family felt sure that the couple would build a brood together. Her father, Arnold, told TV show Extra in January 2020, “I don’t push it because I know it’s going to happen eventually… I’m looking forward to it, yes.”
But it appeared that no one was more thrilled than Schwarzenegger herself. A May 2020 piece by People revealed that the expectant mom was “getting more excited every day.” She has also reportedly translated her joy into action by starting to compile a baby registry.
And that’s not all Schwarzenegger and Pratt reportedly have on their to-do list, as the People source suggested that the parents-to-be hoped to plan a party before their child comes into the world. “[They would love] to have a shower [for Katherine] before the baby arrives. She really wants to celebrate with her friends and family,” the insider added.
One person who was already celebrating was Schwarzenegger’s mom, Shriver. And in an April 2020 Instagram Live conversation with his mother-in-law and brother-in-law Patrick, Pratt was full of praise. He said, “You guys are both just so beautiful. I’m so lucky to have married into such a gorgeous family.”
In response, Shriver couldn’t help but bring up Pratt and Schwarzenegger’s baby-to-be. She replied, “You’re gonna have another beautiful family member.” Throughout the conversation, it seemed that the broadcast journalist was excited for her future as a grandmother.
And while neither Pratt nor Schwarzenegger has confirmed that they have a child on the way, paparazzi snapshots have captured the expectant mom on the go in California with what looks like a baby bump. In the photos, she is casually walking her dog – and inspiration for her children’s book – Maverick.
Schwarzenegger and Pratt are also apparently happy to give the actor’s son, Jack, a new brother or sister. An insider told People, “Jack will be a great big brother. Katherine always says that he is the sweetest, most caring boy… She loves being an extra mom to Jack.”
The source continued, “[Schwarzenegger and Pratt] can’t wait for Jack to have a sibling.” And judging by what the Jurassic World star has said in the past, the couple probably won’t stop with just one new addition to the family.
While Pratt promoted Lego Movie 2: The Second Part in January 2019, he had no trouble envisioning a big clan. When asked by Entertainment Tonight about his future, the star claimed, in fact, that he could see “lots of kids.” And although he and Schwarzenegger have yet to confirm the news, it seems as though they have made strides to turn that dream into a reality.
However, Pratt and Schwarzenegger aren’t the only stars to have shocked the world with pregnancy news. Cameron Diaz also stunned fans when she revealed that she, too, had become a mom at the end of 2019. So, what exactly do we know about the actress’ new arrival?
In the early days of 2020 actress Cameron Diaz delivered some shocking news. You see, she and her spouse, Benji Madden, had welcomed a baby girl into the world. Since this revelation, though, the celebrity couple have kept relatively schtum about their little one. For instance, they’ve opted not to share any pictures of their child. But one inside source has apparently stepped forward and shared some juicy information about Diaz’s newborn.
Diaz and Madden did divulge some tidbits themselves, though, as on January 3 they posted the announcement on each of their official Instagram pages. It reads, “Happy New Year from the Maddens! We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden. She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family.”
“While we are overjoyed to share this news, we also feel a strong instinct to protect our little one’s privacy,” the statement continues. “So we won’t be posting pictures or sharing any more details, other than the fact that she is really, really cute!! Some would even say RAD. From our family to all of yours, we’re sending our love and best wishes for a Happy New Year and Happy New Decade.”
But before Diaz became a mom, she made waves as one of Hollywood’s darlings. Back in 2018, though, Diaz claimed she was more or less done with acting. And in that same year during an interview alongside Selma Blair and Christina Applegate for Entertainment Weekly, she teased, “I am actually retired, so I would love to see you ladies.”
Moreover, in August 2019 the actress appeared to re-confirm that statement when she spoke to InStyle magazine, saying, “The way I look at it is that I’ve given more than half of my life to the public. I feel it’s okay for me to take time for myself now to reorganize and choose how I want to come [back] into the world – if I decide to.”
In the same interview, Diaz also raved about Madden, whom she’d quietly wed in January 2015. “Getting married to him was the best thing that ever happened to me,” Diaz said. “My husband’s the best. He’s the greatest human being, and he’s my great partner… You need somebody who’s willing to do the work with you, because there’s no 60-40 in marriage. It’s 50-50 – period.”
Diaz went on to inform InStyle that she didn’t miss being an actress. And she pondered her future, stating, “Right now, I’m looking at the landscape of wellness and all that. But whatever I do, it has to be something I’m passionate about – something that just feels effortless.” Perhaps motherhood will be her newest passion.
In the past, however, Diaz seemed unsure about whether or not she would have children. In 2012, for instance, she told Harper’s Bazaar magazine, “If one day I am blessed with the experience of having a child, I would be overjoyed, but I am not sitting here feeling empty because I haven’t yet – or that I may not.”
Nonetheless, Diaz’s attitude seemed different when she spoke about the prospect of motherhood later in that year. When the actress was promoting her movie What To Expect When You’re Expecting, in fact, she made it clear that she enjoyed being around children. “I love kids, I have many kids in my life,” she informed Access Hollywood. “I’m an auntie [of] 15 years.”
“I’m totally open to having my own family, however that may come to me,” the then 40-year-old actress continued. “You have to find the right person to do that with. So when that happens, I’m excited about that.” And it appears that she’d found the right person in Madden.
On January 3, 2018 – exactly two years to the day before the baby announcement – Us Weekly magazine reported that Diaz and Madden were apparently desperately hoping for a child. You see, an unnamed source had allegedly informed the publication that the couple “would love to have a baby, [but] it just hasn’t worked out.”
And according to the magazine’s source, apparently Diaz and Madden “don’t know exactly what it will look like, whether it will be natural or through adoption or surrogacy, but they aren’t giving up… It’s been a roller coaster of emotions, yet they still believe there will be a happy ending.”
When the announcement finally came, then, it was met by celebration – as well as a fair amount of curiosity. Some people wanted to know more about Diaz’s fertility, for instance, while others focused on the baby’s unusual name. What did “Raddix” mean, and why had the celebrity couple chosen it for their child? Jokes about the name’s similarity to “radish” were bandied around, too.
The baby girl also happens to share a name with music producer Raddix. “It’s funny because I actually came up with the name on a Google random word generator back in 2012 and haven’t seen anyone else with that name since then,” he informed Page Six magazine. “I’m glad that now others love the name so much.”
“Names change almost every generation, and I’m glad I could be a part of the beginning of this generation of names,” the music producer added before saying he was glad to have “a little extra name recognition.” Page Six also speculated on another potential meaning of the newborn’s name: “Radix” with just a single “d” is a “root.”
However, in January an unnamed source apparently spoke to Us Weekly magazine about where they thought the name had come from. It was, they said, a combination of “rad” and a word meaning “new beginning.” The person, who claimed to be a friend of the family, reportedly added, “It’s so like Cam and Benji to pick a quirky yet meaningful name.”
The source went on to say that Diaz’s famous in-laws, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, were helping out with the baby, too. “They’re going to be a huge part of Raddix’s life,” the insider allegedly claimed. “The plan is to really integrate the two families, so all the kids can grow up together and be one big, happy family.”
Of course, the major question on everybody’s lips was simple: how exactly had Diaz done it? After all, not only had she not announced her pregnancy, but also in the months leading up to January 2020 she’d looked perfectly trim in photographs. So, had the 47-year-old carried the baby herself, or was Raddix the result of surrogacy?
“At seven months, [Diaz] would have been showing,” a fertility specialist named Dr. Gedis Grudzinskas informed The Mail On Sunday newspaper. “Women who are seven months pregnant typically put on 10 to 12 kilos, and most of that weight is around the lower abdomen.” Other medical experts, though, claimed that Diaz could still have carried the child herself – despite her slender appearance.
Debate raged in the newspapers, especially since Diaz herself was keeping so quiet. For instance, The Sun published an article by controversial writer Samantha Brick on the issue. It began, “Us 40-something women who try – and fail – to become mums are pig sick of these celebrity miracle baby stories.”
“I can’t get my head around the fact that so many A-listers would continue to hawk the myth that even in your 40s you can fall preggers at the drop of a hat,” Brick – who had undergone IVF treatment herself in an attempt to conceive – continued. “That is unkind to the rest of us who are trying… Not being truthful about this aspect of being a woman is utterly selfish.”
Other commentators thought that assessment was unfair, however. Writing for Stylist magazine, Hollie Richardson stated, “For some reason, people feel even more entitled to know everything about a woman’s reproductive organs. In the last few months alone, Halsey felt compelled to explain that her belly bloat was down to a gluten allergy. A tweet about Taylor Swift’s fertility, suggesting she’s ‘leaving it too late’ also went viral.”
“Source-led stories have now been run by tabloids, suggesting that Diaz and her husband Benji Madden conceived through surrogacy after trying to get pregnant using IVF treatment,” Richardson added. “[The Sun] responded to this with the headline: ‘Why can’t stars like Cameron Diaz admit having a baby in your 40s is usually down to a test tube?’”
The problem, Richardson opined, is that there’s a stigma surrounding IVF. She then wrote, “this stigma should definitely not exist, not in 2020, because IVF is the most common fertility treatment for people who are unable to conceive naturally. According to a government report, there were over 1 million IVF treatment cycles in the U.K. between 1991 and 2016.”
Richardson noted that Amy Schumer – another celebrity – was undergoing IVF. Schumer had actually opened up about the experience on Instagram in January 2020, writing, “I’m a week into IVF and feeling really run down and emotional. If anyone went through it, and if you have any advice or wouldn’t mind sharing your experience with me, please do. My number is in my bio.”
Nonetheless, the writer stated that just because some women were open about IVF, it didn’t mean that complete strangers and the media were entitled to know the ins and outs of every pregnancy. Regarding Diaz and Schumer, Richardson wrote, “Both women are entitled to do what the hell they want.”
“The whole point is that women have choices about their bodies, their decisions and their children,” Richardson concluded. “Expecting them to publicly talk about the biggest physical and emotional thing that will ever happen to them only feeds into the disturbing and outdated narrative that women need to explain their bodies. They absolutely do not.”
And later in January more information surfaced about Diaz’s baby – but again apparently from an anonymous source, not the woman herself. Yes, a person claiming to be in the know reportedly spoke to celebrity gossip website Radar Online and claimed that Diaz had sacrificed both fame and fortune to become a mother.
“Cam has turned down dozens of roles over these past few years, and it’s no exaggeration to say she could have banked up to $100 million or even more if she’d been working instead of resting and planning her domestic future,” the source allegedly stated. But, they said, Diaz believed it was “a price worth paying.”
“To be fair, she and Benji aren’t exactly short of cash, even after she turned her back on Hollywood,” the source apparently continued. “There’s a growing feeling she’ll get back to making movies once she’s had six months or so to bond with the baby. At the end of the day, she’s just too talented and in-demand to stay in retirement forever.”
In addition, Radar Online believed that Diaz would be flying out to Hawaii with her husband and the baby. An insider reportedly informed the site that when Raddix was “at least two months and fully fit to fly,” the family would be going on a babymoon. The source reportedly added, “There’s a big part of Cameron [that would] love to quit Hollywood and move to Hawaii full-time – and that’s something Benji’s open to as well.”
For those who were already curious about Raddix’s moniker, they perhaps became even more intrigued when her middle names were revealed. And a website called The Blast managed to get hold of the little girl’s birth certificate. This document revealed that she came into the world on December 30, 2019, and her full name is Raddix Chloe Wildflower Madden.
Harper’s Bazaar subsequently speculated that the middle name Wildflower might actually be a tribute to one of Diaz’s friends. You see, her Charlie’s Angels co-star Drew Barrymore titled her memoir Wildflower, so the name seems to be of significance. Neither actress has commented on the matter so far, however.
As well as from digging up new details about Raddix’s name, the media hunted out further information about the family. On January 17 The Sun declared that Diaz and Madden wanted a sibling for Raddix “as soon as possible.” According to an alleged source, the new parents were “beyond smitten – barely leaving the house or going out, as they just want to watch her sleep and feed.”
“They can’t believe how much their worlds have turned upside down and are already thinking ‘Why did we leave this so long?’” the alleged source continued. “Now they are thinking, ‘Let’s give her a brother or sister, let’s make a bigger family,’ especially Benji, as he’s a twin, so [he] would love for his daughter to have a sibling close in age.”
And various people who allegedly claimed to be close to Diaz and Madden spoke to Page Six in January about the famous couple. For instance, a person apparently described as “a screenwriter who has worked with the actress” claimed the couple kept their lives so private to make sure that “no one outside their tight small circle hears from them.”
Another person told the magazine that Raddix was indeed born via surrogate and that the couple “tried forever to get pregnant. They did acupuncture, special diets, IVF, supplements. They went to the best fertility doctors. They tried to adopt. Nothing worked.” The source also reportedly claimed that Diaz had put motherhood above her career.
The “Diaz pal” also allegedly told the magazine, “For Cam, this was her priority over acting, doing books – any kind of career. She was compelled.” Another source reportedly claimed Diaz had started wanting a child only after Madden came into her life, stating, “Even though she’d said she never thought of having kids, that all changed when she met him.”
Other sources claimed that while Raddix was currently staying in the same bedroom as her mom and dad, a new pink nursery room was all done up and ready for her. Furthermore, Diaz and Madden allegedly wouldn’t be hiring a nanny, as they wanted to be “hands-on” parents. Madden’s music career had been put on the backburner, too.
Another alleged friend of the famous couple apparently told Page Six, “Diapers are all they’re thinking about. And maybe another baby.” So, if the stories about Diaz and Madden’s utter devotion to their new baby are true, then Raddix looks set to have a very charmed life indeed.
