At one point or another, we’ve all been on the wrong side of a prank or practical joke. Generally speaking, though, the worst that most us experience is a little embarrassment or a minor inconvenience. But when Howie Mandel returned home one day, it became clear that he’d fallen victim to something far more extreme.
As it turned out, Mandel had unwittingly become the latest target of a serial prankster named Roman Atwood. Something of a YouTube phenomenon, Atwood uploads videos of himself conducting rather intense practical jokes on a variety of people. Some of these are individuals from his own life, while other victims are famous celebrities.
One well-known target was, of course, Howie Mandel, who has developed a reputation as America’s Got Talent’s most comical judge. Indeed, Mandel’s sense of humor was very much put to the test by Atwood. But the prankster wasn’t working alone. In fact, he had some insider help – from none other than Mandel’s son.
For a number of hours, Atwood directed a group of people as they tossed toilet paper onto Mandel’s Los Angeles home. This is a tried-and-tested prank, to be sure, but any mischievous kids that undertake it tend not to have access to quite the same number of supplies. In fact, Atwood and his crew utilized some 4,000 toilet rolls for their operation. So, when Mandel got home, you can imagine his reaction.
Mandel was, to say the least, shocked. In a video capturing the moment he first saw his house, he can be heard saying, “Are you kidding me? Oh my God! Who could get into a gated community?” Naturally enough, he doesn’t seem pleased – but the public appears to have enjoyed his reaction. In fact, the clip documenting his displeasure has been watched more than 19 million times.
