Believe it or not, it’s been almost 20 years since the first Scream movie was released: a fact almost as scary as an encounter with Ghostface. Since then, of course, there have been three more terrifying flicks in the franchise to thrill and chill us. But even if the series’ stars didn’t quite make it out alive, in the real world they’ve often gone on to great things. Read on to see what they’re up to – and what they look like – now…

20. Courteney Cox

Courteney Cox had already made a couple of seasons of Friends when the first Scream film came out, and that was nearly held against her. How? Well, Cox wasn’t initially seen as a viable choice for the part of reporter Gale Weathers given her reputation for playing nicer characters. Still, she eventually won through – and made it to the end of the series to date. Cox, of course, played Monica Gellar on Friends until its last episode in 2004; she’s also had considerable TV success with Cougar Town.

19. David Arquette

Adorably, David Arquette met his future wife, Courteney Cox, on the set of the first Scream movie. The pair have since divorced, but not before having daughter Coco together in 2004 – and giving her the middle name of “Riley.” A nod to Arquette’s Scream character Dewey Riley, perhaps? The actor has popped up in a slew of TV shows and movies since his Scream days; bizarrely, he also became the WCW World Champion in the early ’00s.
